The Free School & Nursery Mini-Shoot offer returns for 2023!
As a parent of school-age children I know that this time of year usually includes a message home to say that the school photographer is due in soon (or has already been and you've got the proof to prove it)!
Unfortunately I also know that some children have missed their school's photographer due to illness or, it might simply be that you'd like another chance to have your child's picture taken.
Whatever the reason, our Free School & Nursery Mini Shoot offer is for you!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The free mini-shoot is the perfect alternative to the school photographer and it's really simple... book a free of charge mini shoot at our Salisbury studio!

There is no obligation to purchase anything, of course we hope that you do, but it's entirely up to you! Our wide range of products include prints, digital downloads, frames, canvases, as well as more novelty gifts such as fridge magnets, puzzles and keyrings.

Over the past four weeks there’s been a few milestones for my little photography business. Now in my 15th year of trading, having just photographed my 200th wedding and I’ve been
based at the studio now for 10 years.
All these milestones coincided with me thinking about the business and where I see it in the next few years. So, with that in mind, and over 360 family photoshoots later, this Christmas will be my last
offering family shoots at the studio.
It’s been so much fun welcoming hundreds of families to the studio since 2013 and before that when my fledgling business was hiring studio facilities elsewhere. Now though is the right time to hang up the inflatable props.
I will still be based at the studio, so all my other studio services including Passport & ID photos and Photo Restoration services will continue as normal, as will my corporate events, commercial headshots, and location-based photography and of course, weddings. It’s only studio-based Family Photoshoots that will end from Sunday 17th December.
Doorstep Snaps will also be back for Christmas 2023 so watch this space if you’d like to get involved and help support the Stars Appeal and Julia’s House.

The Big Dog Art Trail
Swindon goes walkies from Saturday 15th July - 3rd September.
30 supersized Swindogs and over 40 Swinpups have been unleashed across Swindon this summer.
The summer spectacle of giant Swindogs creates a free and family-friendly art trail through some of Swindon's most well-loved parks, places and historic landmarks.
Brought to life by Wild In Art and designed by local and international artists, the uniquely decorated sculptures will create the UK's first-ever balloon dog art trail and help raise essential funds for Julia's House Children's Hospice.
The Swinpups have been designed by children from across Swindon who took part in an inspirational learning programme. Decorated in classrooms and community spaces, the Swinpups explore topics that are important to the children and groups who have taken part in the project. At the end of the trail, the Swinpups will return to their fur-ever homes with the schools and groups that created them.
It all started with an email...
"Secret Swindon photography mission"?!
I've been a volunteer for Julia's House since 2015 and I'm used to the wide variety of photography requests the charity would send me, but this was different! Laura's email had "secret, and Swindon" in the title and I was immediately curious.
That was 10th May 2022. Eight days later I headed to Swindon and met up with the Julia's House team and a large, white, balloon dog sculpture. We visited Lydiard Park, Swindon Town FC and other parts of the town photographing the dog in situ. Plenty of the public were curious as to what on earth we were doing!
It would prove to be a week I'd never forget because four days after that first shoot took place my Dad passed away.
I was immediately interested in the project and offered to support Julia's House by providing as much photography as needed. The Big Dog Art Trail gave me something to focus on in the days, weeks and months after Dad went.
Just some of the photography captured during the project included:
the original launch evening at STEAM,
photographing the original Swindog being painted by Hannah Dosanjh,
sponsor events at the NSBRC,
the learner programme launch at Wyvern Theatre,
individual imagery for The Big Dog Art Trail app
photographing sponsors and artists,
imagery for Big Dog literature, press launches, and much more.
It's fair to say that I know more about Swindon and it's culture, heritage and fantastic open spaces now than I ever thought I would!
Fourteen months later, and the rest as they say is history.
The Big Dog Art Trail has been a huge undertaking for its Project Manager, Chris Hyde, and the team at Julia's House and I want to congratulate them all on an amazing achievement so far and thank them for inviting me to join them on this project. It's been a privilege being the Big Dog Art Trail photographer.
There's more to come including the Farewell Weekend on 16th - 17th September at STEAM Museum where you'll be able to see all the sculptures under one roof for their final bow wow. Then there's the Grand Auction, also at STEAM on Tuesday 19th September.
Until then, why not take part in The Big Dog Art Trail
and help raise vital funds for Julia's House.

Over 2000 took part in the Stars Appeal's Walk For Wards at Wilton House on Sunday 9th July. Although the weather forecast wasn't kind the sun came out and the rain held off as walkers set off on their 3k, 5k or 10k walks.
It is hoped over £100,000 will be raised for this year's event.
With a welcome from Greatest Hits Radio's Martin Starke and words from Stars Appeal Ambassador, Dr Tracey Parker and Salisbury District Hospital Trust Chair, Ian Green OBE, walkers paused to remember loved ones before the big countdown and ribbon cutting with David Newton of Salisbury Reds, principal sponsor of Walk For Wards.
It was great to be invited to photograph the event again and working with my colleague, Spencer, meant we were able to have the full gallery ready for walkers to view within 48 hours of the event finishing.
All the proceeds from picture sales goes to the Stars Appeal. Last year we added an extra £206.60 to the Walk For Wards total.

A Photographer's Memories of The Queen's Visit to Salisbury.
By late April 2012 I had been a photographer for almost three years, part-time for the first two and full-time for one. I had not long left my full-time job in the mobile phone industry to concentrate on growing my photography business. One of the most important parts of building my knowledge and experience was as a freelance photographer for the Salisbury Journal.
Up to that point I had photographed a wide variety of jobs from local sports, village fates, school events, residents celebrating their 100th birthdays and much more. All were important events locally and as the Journal was a Newspaper of Public Record, capturing these events was important for the newspaper to publish for the circulation area it served.
Working alongside Chief Photographer, Roger Elliott, and his deputy, Tom Gregory, I was fortunate to be able to learn a huge amount from both of them in terms of photography but also about newspapers and the media in general.
By late April of that year the country was shortly to experience the spectacle of the Olympic Games at London 2012. The country was also celebrating with Her Majesty the Queen her Diamond Jubilee year and 60 years on the throne. 60 years was seen as a remarkable achievement only surpassed by the 63-year reign of Queen Victoria. Queen Elizabeth II would need only three more years to become Britain's longest-reigning monarch.
I can’t recall exactly when the Journal was notified about The Queen’s visit – it may have been the Friday before or even the day before the visit? I had been in the Journal’s office chatting with Roger when the announcement came through: HM The Queen & HRH Duke of Edinburgh to visit Salisbury on Tuesday 1st May 2012 as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee tour of the United Kingdom. Plans were put into place straight away. The Journal as one of the two local media companies (the other being Spire FM) were to have prominent positions to capture the event (even better access than the national newspapers and press agencies).
Roger and Tom had decided on their fixed positions along the route from Salisbury Railway Station to Salisbury Cathedral. Carolyn White as another of the Journal’s freelance photographers was also asked to cover the proceedings. All in all, Roger had a team of four covering the event and asked me to go to the train station to “see if you can get a few snaps of them arriving”. Quite a vague request I thought. So I may or may not get some shots of The Queen. Either way I'd do my best.
Tuesday 1st May 2012 came, and it was raining in Salisbury! Typical! The Royal Party was due to arrive at noon, so I got into the city centre at around 1045 and made my way along Fisherton Street. It was still raining and as I cantered along, I look across to Fisherton Railway Bridge and could see that a lorry had got stuck under the bridge! I immediately thought it must be some sort of anti-monarchy protest or possible terrorist incident. After taking a couple of pictures and sending them into the Journal offices I carried on with my walk to the train station. Later it was confirmed that the lorry had simply got stuck due to driver error!
Arriving at the station I entered the foyer to literally no one there! Had I got the wrong day?! After what felt like an hour but was more likely just a minute, a man in a suit entered the foyer and asked if he could help. I gave my name, who I was working for and why I was there. He was the Station Manager for South West Trains and told me to wait in the foyer, not actually confirming that “my name was down”. After a couple of minutes, a man entered the foyer. It was Anthony, another photographer. We said hello and the man in the suit invited both of us onto the platform.
The platform had a couple of police officers and what looked like security staff and that was about it. Anthony and I were asked to stand behind a small barrier and wait. By this time invited members of the public were also beginning to arrive on the platform. Now for reasons only known to myself I assumed (wrongly) that The Queen’s train was going to arrive from London (well, that’s where she lives after all). Looking east along the platform it soon became clear that the train was in fact arriving from the west. The Queen had been in Yeovil and Crewkerne earlier that morning and was travelling back towards Salisbury!
Bearing in mind that my brief was to “get a few snaps of The Queen arriving” I didn’t really know what to expect so I thought I’d just capture what I saw. I couldn’t exactly ask The Queen to stop and pose for me, could I?! What lens should I use?! Long lens or wide lens? Either way I'd only brought one camera with me and had to make a decision, so I decided to stick to the wide lens.
The Royal Train pulled into the station and after a few minutes The Queen stepped off the train to be greeted by The Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Rose Troughton. When Prince Philip stepped off the train, I captured a shot which Roger commented on afterwards that “they looked like any ordinary couple getting off a train”. The Queen and Prince Philip were then introduced to the “bloke in the suit” and ushered towards a lady and her young son who was chosen to present The Queen with flowers. Jacob Bennett of Greentrees Primary School had the honour of presenting The Queen with flowers as Prince Philip and the others looked on.
The Royal Party was then escorted along the platform and into the foyer to the waiting Royal Car. During this time this is where I was snapping away and in one shot The Queen looks straight down the lens at me, literally a few feet from where I was standing! At that moment I didn’t realise that The Queen had given me such a perfect shot, I was to find that out later. As someone from a council estate in southeast London I had never had the opportunity to see The Queen. This was the person I’d seen on the telly and in the papers but never this close! I was able to follow behind them as they made their way through the foyer to the waiting car and the crowds outside the station. They left the station and made their way along Fisherton Street towards The Close.
By now the rain had stopped and I ran as fast as I could towards the City Centre knowing that, at that point, my job was done. I got a few shots of people lining the route to the Cathedral and then made my way to Musicroom on Fisherton Street. My mate Marc had not long taken over as manager of Musicroom and I thought I’d pop in and use his electricity to download my shots. With newspaper jobs its really important to get the images over to the newsdesk asap. Even though The Journal is published on a Thursday they’d still need images for the website and to get the supplement ready. Marc suggested I went up to the first floor, so I headed upstairs found a plug socket and started downloading the images I’d taken. Bearing in mind there were customers in the shop at the time I was having a quick look through the images and then suddenly let out a loud exclamation and a couple of swear words when I realised that The Queen, the lady I’d only ever seen on the telly and in newspapers was looking straight at me in one of my shots! I apologised for my outburst and explained what had happened.
With the images safely downloaded I decided to call Roger to see how it was going and ask what he’d like me to do next. He’d got the shots he needed at The Rifles Museum, in The Close and at the Cathedral and he was heading back to the Journal’s offices. He asked me if I could pop back to the train station for the Royal Party’s departure. Heading back there I really didn’t know what to expect. I got there and “the bloke in the suit” was there waiting for The Queen’s imminent arrival. He asked me if I would like to stay outside the main entrance or to go back onto the platform. I hadn’t thought about it really. Either way I had to make a decision quickly and I couldn’t change my mind. Initially I was thinking of staying outside, after all I’d got shots on the platform already. However, for reasons I can’t explain I said that I’d like to go back onto the platform. This was a split-second decision and one that with the benefit of hindsight was the best decision I’d made all day.
For when the Queen and Duke arrived back at the station, I was the only photographer on the platform as they made their way back to the Royal Train. Again, a small group of people were waiting for her, and The Queen was presented with more flowers. At that point I realised that any images I captured here would be more or less unique.
The Queen and Prince Philip had a chat with the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire and a man whose name I didn’t get. The Queen boarded the train and that was the last I saw of her. The Duke, however, chose to come back to the open window of the train to continue his chat with the Lord Lieutenant and the other bloke (whose name I didn’t get). It was a much more relaxed Prince Philip just chatting candidly and more relaxed than before. Suddenly a loud roar of laughter was heard from the direction of where Prince Philip was and I can only imagine what The Duke had said at that point! That is where my favourite shot of Prince Philip was captured. If I’d have stayed outside the station, I’d have never got that shot!
It’s funny how these split-second decisions have a huge bearing on the final outcome of a shoot. After that the rest of the day is a blur. Bearing in mind The Queen’s visit was on the Tuesday the paper went to print on the Wednesday afternoon for sale on the Thursday. The Journal team worked quickly to turn around a paper with a 12-page Royal supplement and a fantastic selection of images of what turned out to be the last visit to the city of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh. After leaving Salisbury the Royal Train parked in sidings near the chalk pit on the Wilton Road overnight with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh on board! How crazy is that?!
Speaking to Roger a few years later he remarked that The Queen’s visit in 2012 was the last full-scale event properly covered by The Journal. Four photographers all covering the same event from different positions for a local newspaper is something that is now consigned to history in large part due to technological changes and the public’s ability to receive their news in different, more digital ways.
Regardless, it was an event I’ll never forget. It was a great team effort and a job well done. In hindsight I believe Roger asking me to “get a few shots” was his way of taking the pressure off me, a relative rookie photographer back then. I will always be indebted to Roger, and Tom for asking me to be a part of that event, the visit of the longest-reigning Monarch, the like of which I won’t see again in my lifetime.
Whether you’re pro or anti-monarchy the death of Her Majesty The Queen is a profoundly sad moment for a family mourning the loss of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a nation mourning the loss of it’s Head of State.
In the words of Paddington…. Thank You Ma’am, for everything!

A Wiltshire Wedding with the Wow Factor!
A wedding I had the honour of photographing for Michelle & Chris at Bowood House back in May has recently featured in two wedding industry magazines.
Highlighting the story of their engagement and planning for a wedding which was twice postponed due to Covid, the feature used a number of my images showcasing all that was great about their big day.
In the Glos & Wilts Wedding magazine the day was featured as the "Real Life Wedding" for August/September 2022 whilst in Bride Magazine it has been featured as the main story on their website.
It goes without saying that I'm delighted to have my images featured in these publications showcasing the wonderful day Michelle, Chris and their guests had.

Following on from the Government's recent announcement I'm delighted to confirm that the studio will be able to offer it's full offering of family photoshoots, corporate headshots and passport photography.
Customers who work for the NHS and other keyworkers who have registered their interest in our Free NHS & Keyworkers Photoshoot will still be able to take their shoot under the same date guidelines as above.
Last year, we extended all Photoshoot Gift Vouchers that hadn't been used to either 15th June 2021 or twelve months from the date of purchase. With that in mind, I had originally extended the Free Photoshoot offer for NHS & Keyworkers until at least Tuesday 15th June which will be exactly one year since I was able to reopen the studio after the first lockdown.
Taking everything into account I'm pleased to confirm that all Photoshoot Gift Vouchers and the Free Photoshoot for NHS & Key Workers offer has been extended and is available until 30th November 2021.
Hopefully this is the next step in all of us getting back to some sort of normality. Clearly these dates are subject to change, thanks for your patience whilst I work through all the guidance.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Important: I have had a number of emails go into people's spam/junk folders over the past few weeks. If you haven't received an email from me and were expecting one please check your spam/junk folder as it's likely to be there by mistake, thanks.
Simon
Back in April 2020 the UK and most of the World was in the middle of the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. It was also then that I introduced a Free Photoshoot for NHS & Key Workers as a "thank you" for all the great things our local key workers were doing to help others at that extremely difficult and challenging time.
Fast forward over 12 months and things are looking better with the vaccine rollout and we're keeping our fingers crossed about the remainder of the lockdown restrictions being eased on 21st June. However, this may or may not happen depending on what the Scientists and the Government decide in the coming days.
With that in mind, I had originally extended the Free Photoshoot offer for NHS & Keyworkers until at least Tuesday 15th June which will be exactly one year since I was able to reopen the studio after the first lockdown. Taking everything into account I'm pleased to confirm that the Free Photoshoot for NHS & Key Workers offer has been extended and is available until 30th November 2021.
Everyone who originally registered their interest has been emailed this update(check your spam/junk folder if not received.
For full details of the Free Photoshoot for NHS & Key Workers please see the original post from April 2020.
To register your interest simply email us here.
For more information on our Classic Photoshoot click here.
Following on from the successful reopening of the studio on Monday 12th April I'm now looking forward to offering two-household photoshoots which involve six people or up to two households and corporate photography from Monday 17th May. This is in addition to the individual photography services such as passport photos, corporate headshots and single-household (and bubble) family photoshoots we've been able to offer since 12th April.
Weddings will still be subject to some restrictions until at least 21st June and I've contacted all my couples who are affected by this.
From 21st June we should be able to welcome family photoshoots and corporate photography in sizes we would normally expect pre-Covid. This will include corporate photography that involves three or more people from more than two households.
I will keep the 15th June date under review in case the Government's roadmap is extended beyond the published timeframes. A year ago today (28th March) I started my “temporary” job as a Customer Delivery Driver at Tesco in Salisbury! With my self-employment having fallen off a cliff during March 2020 I decided that I wasn’t going to sit around and wait for something to happen, so I applied for one of the 20,000 temporary jobs which Tesco were advertising nationally to help them with the panic buying happening at the time.
I applied for the role online whilst the Tesco website was crashing under the pressure of so may people applying for roles. Three days later I had a call inviting me in for an interview, for an hour later(!), so I hastily got ready and off I went with my then three-year-old daughter for my first job interview in ten years (and Scarlett's first ever job interview).
So, all day on a Thursday and Friday plus 4 hours on Saturday and Monday evenings (and overtime) has seen me driving a 3.5 tonne 2 seater Merc (and the odd Iveco) around an area stretching from Tilshead to the New Forest, Sherfield English to Motcombe and everywhere in between. All the while listening to an eclectic mix of Radio X, BBC Radio Solent, Spire FM (GHR Salisbury) and BBC Radio Five Live. Doing this job has meant I’ve been very lucky to have had something to do outside of these four walls and the home schooling, meeting people and keeping active. I don’t think you can put a price on fresh air and exercise! Other people haven't been so lucky to be able to say the same. I’d have gone slightly mad if I had not had this job keeping me sane, that said there has been a few days where I’ve felt low, frustrated and irritable (what’s new some would say)!
I was joined by several other people, from many different backgrounds, all wanting to do the same thing including airline pilots, explorers, sound engineers, car salespeople, architects, DJs, driving instructors, students and loads of other people of all ages. All thrown together in a strange set of circumstances. Not to mention all the existing staff in Dotcom and instore who have worked longer through the pandemic helping customers than anyone else. So much has happened in a year including the three national lockdowns, panic buying, queues to get into the store, no face masks then mandatory face masks and now a vaccine programme. We have all had to adapt to a new way of life, however temporary or long term that may be.
I’ve delivered to so many people I know personally, as well as many people working for the NHS and other keyworkers some who have been working 12/14 hours shifts helping to care for the most vulnerable. I’ve also delivered to many people shielding, self-isolating, working from home, home schooling, furloughed or made redundant. Every single person has their own opinion of Covid and how it has affected them (sometimes some views have been stronger than others). Because traffic in the main has been very light I’ve been able to spend time chatting to people, asking how they are, and in some cases being the only human they’ve seen for ages. Many people reluctantly converted to online shopping in March 2020, but most will not go back to shopping in store when we get back to normality.
On my travels I’ve been joined by ponies, donkeys, dogs, cats jumping in the back and front of the van, cows causing me delays, fallen trees and experienced gloriously sunny days, torrential rain and freezing ice and snow. People have created "Tesco Trolleys", coloured their walls and doors with rainbows and stuck carrier bags outside their houses. Van breakdowns, recoveries, flat tyres, jump starts and the queue for McDonald's when it reopened! During the VE Day celebrations I remember we were clapped by people having parties outside their houses in Shrewton. Slightly embarrassing but humbling at the same time. Delivering to a campsite in the New Forest looking for a green tent was a challenge! I also remember a group of neighbours having a quiz on The Beeches in Salisbury and being asked if I could help with a couple of questions they were stuck on (on the QT of course)!
And, quite by accident, I have kept a photographic record of my time at Tesco, predominantly when in a van, showcasing the wonderful part of the world we live in and the four changing seasons. You can view them by clicking the link below. You could be forgiven for thinking that due to the number of images I’ve taken, I’ve actually made any deliveries at all! I think I’ll be at Tesco for a while yet and may continue doing a few hours a week long after normality has returned. I've been made to feel so welcome and the flexibility shown to me has been great whilst trying to manage a business and my Tesco hours. My photography business is my priority though and I’m looking forward to reopening the studio on 12th April and capturing all the weddings and events which were postponed from 2020. 📸 🤞

Following on from the Government's announcement on 22nd February 2021 I remain optimistic that the studio can reopen on Monday 12th April for individual photography services such as passport photos, corporate headshots and for single-household family photoshoots.
Unfortunately, at this stage it appears that weddings will still be subject to restrictions until at least 21st June and I've contacted all my couples who are likely to be affected by this.
Family photoshoots that involve six people or up to two households are expected to be allowed from no earlier than 17th May and this will be the earliest date we can book these photoshoots for. Corporate photography that involves three or more people from more than two households cannot take place at this time.
From 21st June we should be able to welcome family photoshoots and corporate photography in sizes we would normally expect pre-Covid this will include corporate photography that involves three or more people from more than two households.
I will keep the 15th June date under review in case the Government's roadmap is extended beyond the published timeframes. Basically, any customer who has an unused gift voucher or not taken their Free NHS & Keyworker shoot yet won't lose out.

During the current National Lockdown I've had numerous phone calls from customers asking if I can still offer passport photography. Unfortunately Photography Studios like mine are required to close during the lockdown and with the vast majority of photo booths also closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic the only alternative at this time is to take your own and send it digitally to the Passport Office.
Of course, I'd much prefer you to visit the studio but it's simply not possible until the current restrictions are eased and I'm allowed to reopen again. However if your passport application cannot wait, and to help you during our period of closure, please find below a guide to taking your own passport photo at home.
To take your passport photo, I’d recommend a good quality phone camera, a digital camera, or a tablet. It is important to note that you can’t submit a selfie, so you’ll need someone else to take the photo on your behalf. However, if you have a tripod, use it! It will ensure that the camera is kept steady and level.
Take your photo in front of a plain background that is cream or white in colour. Avoid standing in front of tiled walls or patterned wallpaper, and make sure there are no objects in the frame. The correct posture for optimal positioning is to stand 1.5 metres away from the person taking the photo, and half a metre from the wall. Make sure your photo isn’t closely cropped as the Passport Office will automatically crop your image to size once they’ve received your application. Remember to position yourself so that there is enough space around your head and shoulders too.
The best lighting is natural lighting, so position yourself facing towards a window. Photos won’t be accepted if there are shadows on your face or behind your head, so make sure that the light is even. If you don’t have access to enough natural lighting, avoid being too close to a lamp as it will only light one side of your face.
You should take off any headwear unless it’s worn for religious or medical reasons. If you have accessories such as hair clips or glasses, they will also need to be removed (this also applies to glasses positioned on the top of your head!). Although the Passport Office recommends removing glasses, you may wear them if absolutely necessary - just take care to avoid glare on the lenses as this would void the photo. Put your hair back into a ponytail, tuck a long fringe behind your ear (or with a natural clip) as hair also counts towards covering your face.
Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression. Although it feels unnatural, your mouth should be closed, and you aren’t allowed to smile. Once you’ve taken your photo, double check that the image is clear and in focus, with no red eye. If there is a problem, take another shot as you are unable to use an editing software to correct it.
I hope this information is useful. If your new or renewing passport application can wait I'd be delighted to welcome you to the studio just as soon as I'm allowed to reopen. For more information on our passport and ID photography click here.

Following the Government's announcement of a third national lockdown the studio is now closed and all photographic work postponed until further notice. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
I am still contactable (even if it's just for a chat)! Click here for ways to get in touch.
Stay safe, do the right thing, look out for each other and see you on the other side.

Following the UK Government's announcement on 30th December that Wiltshire would move into Tier 3 of the Coronavirus Restrictions as a business we can continue to trade as a Covid-secure non-essential retailer.
We are currently open for studio photography and meetings, subject to the Rule of Six (five plus me as the photographer) and no household mixing.
We are currently available most days, except Thursdays and Fridays, and by appointment-only. We highly encourage people to contact us before visiting the studio.
This situation is of course subject to change and I'll update my website if restrictions in Wiltshire change which affect the business.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
Keep safe and well.
Simon
Having watched the press briefing yesterday and subsequently reading the guidance on Gov.uk, it is clear that we will have to close the studio again from Thursday 5th November until Wednesday 2nd December 2020.
This means, unfortunately, that all of our Mini Shoots booked for Saturday 7th November will now not go ahead. Last night I contacted all 8 families due to visit so please check your emails if you haven't received it yet.
We are more than happy to bring your Mini Shoot forward to either Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd, or Wednesday 4th (some families have already replied to do this). Alternatively we can rearrange (hopefully) for after the restrictions are lifted from Wednesday 2nd December.
I'm really sorry to have to postpone on Saturday 7th but them is the rules.
Also, if you hadn't booked in for a Mini Shoot and would like to get in touch asap before we close on Wednesday evening. More details here... https://www.simonwardphotography.com/.../free-school-and...
Everyone else booked in for their small, Rule of Six family shoots and wedding meetings between 5th Nov and 2nd Dec have been contacted too.
On another note... these new restrictions give the Amazons of this world the opportunity to "clean up" for 28 days and make an already beleaguered UK retail industry struggle even more.
It would be great if we all could make a conscious effort to buy our Christmas presents locally or from UK-based companies this year. If we don't, these businesses will be stuck with stock, hammered by fixed costs and ultimately won't be there in the future. Most of the best small, independent businesses have an online presence but even if they don't, many are adapting to offer a phone order/delivery service too.
It might take a little bit more effort and it may take a little longer to arrive but you know it makes sense!
Keep safe and well.
Simon
The kids are back at school and nursery trying to get back to some sort of normality. As a parent of school and nursery-age children myself I know that this time of year would normally include a message home to say that the school photographer is due in soon.
Unfortunately we know that some local schools and nurseries aren't having the usual school photos this year. If this affects you and your child then we've got an offer for you.
Our free mini shoot is the perfect alternative to the school photographer. It's really simple... book a free of charge mini shoot with us at our Salisbury studio! The mini-shoot is for up to 10 minutes and can include siblings, up to the current "Rule of Six" Covid restrictions. We'll then upload your image(s) to a password-protected gallery on our website where you can view and make any purchases you wish either online or via the studio. There is no obligation to purchase anything, we hope you do, but it's up to you!
Our extensive range of products include prints, digital downloads, frames, canvases, as well as more novelty gifts such as fridge magnets, puzzles and keyrings. Pricing starts from just £9.00 for our 6x4" prints.
Plus, if you book your mini-shoot by Sunday 18th October you'll receive an exclusive discount:
Spend £30 or more, get free delivery!
Spend £55 or more, get 10% off and free delivery!
Spend £75 or more, get 15% off and free delivery!
Space and availability is limited. To find out more or to book your free mini-shoot call us on 01722 324267 or click here.

📸 WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY UPDATE:
The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that couples all across the country have had no other option but to postpone their big days, with most rescheduling for 2021.
The Government's latest guidance is that ceremonies can take place with up to 30 people. This figure includes the vicar, organist, registrars, photographer etc. For most of our couples the 30 person limit is too low and therefore rearranging to a new date is the only course of action.
However, I've had a number of enquiries in the past week from couples who are going ahead with smaller, restricted wedding ceremonies this year.
Since I started the business in 2009 I've never offered fixed packages such as "Gold, Silver or Bronze" - which offer a set number of hours, a set number of edited images or such like.
I've always been of the belief that these packages are restrictive and don't taken into account all the individual requirements of the most important people - the couple getting married!
With this in mind, and with some couples choosing to have their wedding this year, albeit on a much smaller scale, the bespoke wedding photography I offer has never been more important and relevant.
Ordinarily my wedding photography would start from £600.00, and include many services as standard, however this price takes into account a much longer ceremony than currently available because of Coronavirus.
If you, or someone you know, is going ahead with their wedding during the restrictions and wants their day captured by a professional photographer with 11 years experience, having photographed over 150 weddings, check out my website and get in touch so that we can check availability and discuss your individual circumstances.

Twelve weeks ago today I started my temporary job at Tesco. It's also just over twelve weeks since Boris told us all to stay at home.
It feels like a lifetime ago and lots has happened in since then.
Back then, I don't think many of us knew what would happen the next day, let alone the next week!
I had in my head that I might be at Tesco for about twelve weeks. Now that my 13th wedding and all of my summer events have either postponed or cancelled, it's safe to say that I'll be with Tesco for a while yet. That isn't a problem because I'm genuienly enjoying the job, it's been a great experience so far and I've met some great people, both colleagues and customers.
I wanted to keep myself busy and useful, while trying to bring some money in. I didn't expect to lose just over a stone in weight on the Tesco Dotcom diet though! 🤣
I am thankful to have had the opportunity to do this job because many can't work, many have had to work from home, many have had to self-isolate, many have had to shield for at least twelve weeks and many people have sadly died from this damn virus. We've all been affected by Coronavirus, some more so than others.
The studio has reopened for small photography jobs but I think we're all in this for the long haul so my business and my Tesco shifts will work side by side for the foreseeable future.
All bar a handful of shifts have been fine, dry and sunny. As I head to The Donheads and Shaftesbury in my little two-seater Merc, tonight isn't one of those sunny shifts! 🤣
Keep taking care of yourselves and look after each other.

A very special thank you to Julia's House patron, Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra for inviting us down to Sandbanks last Thursday evening to photograph them for Doorstep Snaps!
It was lovely to have them take part, and with Adam and I being Spurs fans it made it all the more special (including the socially-distanced selfie)! 😂
You've all helped to raise a fantastic £1,635 so far for Julia's House and the Stars Appeal. Thank you all so much for your support!

]]>Following the recent announcement regarding non-essential businesses... we're pleased to confirm that we plan to tentatively reopen the studio on Monday 15th June.
Due to the small size of the studio, and to adhere to social-distancing measures, we will be able to offer passport and ID photography, by appointment only, but unable to offer studio-based family photoshoots until further notice. We will be able to offer outdoor family photoshoots in line with current guidelines.
Wedding meetings can be held at the studio with social-distancing but we will continue to offer phone or video-based meetings as we are currently doing.
For our business customers, we will be able to offer individual headshots at the studio also in line with the current guidelines and by appointment only. For headshots at your premises, if social-distancing can be observed within your office/workplace then this will be available too.
GIFT VOUCHERS
We have taken the decision to extend the validity of our Gift Vouchers for all customers who haven't yet been able to use them due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Gift Vouchers are now valid for twelve months from 15th June 2020.
Like many small businesses this has been a tough time, we'd like to thank you for all your support over the past ten weeks.
Simon
We find ourselves in unprecedented times. The one constant throughout has been our wonderful National Health Service and all the amazing Key Workers who are working around the clock to care for us, our friends and our families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Locally, many people either work at Salisbury District Hospital, an NHS business, or know someone who does. The NHS is a family and Salisbury NHS is a family too. Also, the delivery drivers, supermarket workers, carers, emergency services, bank staff and many more who are helping to keep the country going during this Coronavirus crisis.
We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone in the local Salisbury NHS family and Key Workers by offering you a FREE Classic Family Photoshoot once the lockdown restrictions have been lifted. An opportunity for you to bring your family to our studio for a one-hour studio photoshoot and a complimentary print of your choice. It's just our way of saying THANK YOU to you! Plus, for any purchases you make we'll donate 20% of our proceeds split between the Stars Appeal and Julia's House
Naturally because of the lockdown restrictions we can't offer you a free photoshoot yet, so all you need to do at the moment is register your interest in our offer by emailing us and including your NHS email address if you're an NHS worker. Once we are closer to some sort of normality, and we've worked out the finer details of our offer, we'll email you and invite you to choose a date & time to take your free family photoshoot.
After your photoshoot you'll have the opportunity to have an exclusive viewing at the studio and a password-protected online gallery so that you and your family can view the images in your own time. Like always, there is no obligation on you to buy any images but if you do, you'll be supporting the Stars Appeal too.
UPDATE: 29.08.2020
Recently we completed a studio photoshoot for a family of four. We did this with all the required Covid-safe requirements and the shoot was a success. With this in mind I’m now happy to arrange bookings from 1st September for all the families who registered their interest in our offer.
At the current time, I’m happy to have single families/family bubbles of up to 8 people at the studio. This will give us the required space for social distancing of one metre plus and ensure that the shoot is a good experience for you. We have plenty of hand sanitisers as well as changing facilities at the studio.
If you would like to bring more than 8 people or more than one family group I would prefer to wait until restrictions are eased further, hence why I’ve already made our offer available to you until at least 15th June 2021.
For more information on our Classic Photoshoot click here.
To register your interest simply email us here.
In the meantime, stay home, stay safe and look after each other.

Ahead of my evening driving shift at Tesco yesterday, I used some of my exercise time to step foot into Salisbury city centre for the first time in three weeks (and to buy some bananas)! 🤣
A sunny Easter Bank Holiday Monday that would usually have been busy with shoppers, workers and tourists, lies empty. At one point I was outnumbered by pigeons!

This time last week I'd just completed some initial Tesco e-learning training and spent an afternoon with an existing driver out on the road.
Fast forward seven days and I've spent time out this week with other drivers across the whole of Salisbury store's delivery area (which, in today's sunshine is such a beautiful part of the world), had a mention on the wireless and completed yet more training.
DBS certificate all sorted (that's my third current DBS now) so this evening I was allowed out all on my own delivering to the good people of Fordingbridge, Downton and Salisbury.
Some were self-isolating, some were pregnant and all were very happy to see the van pull up and keeping a 2 metre distance of course.
I think it goes without saying that staff at all the supermarkets and other essential retailers are doing a great job in unprecedented circumstances. I take my hat off to them!
Back in tomorrow to do an extra shift. So far so good. Keeps me busy and useful.
Stay safe all! 🚚

With my self-employment having fallen off a cliff these past couple of weeks due to the Coronavirus outbreak and my Plan B with the buses not currently an option, I needed a Plan C. Not being one to sit around and wait for something to happen I decided to apply for one of the 20,000 temporary Tesco jobs a couple of Thursdays ago.
Over the past ten days I've been interviewed, had a driving assessment and spent today learning the role and helping to deliver shopping with Nathan to the good people of Hindon, Motcombe, Wilton and Salisbury. Most of whom were self-isolating, vulnerable or both.
Every single customer was delighted to see us and I'm looking forward to helping get the essentials to those that need it most over the next few weeks and months.
Thanks to Nathan for his wisdom today and thanks to Craig too for pointing me in the right direction when I was applying for the job.
I just might see some of you out and about soon and once these crazy times are over Simon Ward Photography will be back.

Today (Thursday 21st March 2019) marks ten years since I started my photography adventure by registering the domain www.simonwardphotography.com and the rest, as they say, is history!
I'd just like to say THANK YOU to everyone who has been a part of our first ten years, have chosen us for their photography needs or offered help, advice and guidance along the way.
After 15 years in retail, sales and marketing (predominently telecoms based) I knew that I had to follow my passion. From humble beginnings working part-time from home back in 2009 (while still having a full-time day job), to taking the plunge and going full time in 2011, to opening our studio in 2013, to today where we offer not only family portraiture and weddings but special events, commercial and corporate event photography, photo restoration and passport photography.
We're a local business which has grown to include a team of three for special projects and events. We work with businesses and organisations across the U.K. and of all shapes and sizes, and we get to work with couples excited about planning the most important day of their lives and families wanting to capture precious moments.
We love supporting charities whenever we can and along the way we've been lucky to work with the Stars Appeal, Julia's House, Lucy's Days Out and many others. We've also offered work experience to budding photography students as and when practical.
Although the country was in the midst of the credit crisis in 2009, ten years on the country finds itself in the midst of further tourmoil. It just goes to show that as individuals we have to be in control of our own destiny, so here's to the next decade and whatever it may bring.
We really do love what we do. Enjoy what you do you and you never work a day in your life, so THANK YOU again for your part in our first ten years.

Back in April we were commissioned to be the Official Photographer for Musical Theatre Salisbury's forthcoming summer production of Evita at Salisbury Playhouse. Photography was to include rehearsal and dress rehearsal photography, and cast headshots.
One Thursday evening 25 of the Evita cast and crew popped into our studio for their headshots and later that evening we photographed the talented ladies and gents as they were busy rehearsing in Salisbury.
Fast forward three months and it's almost opening night! We have the dress rehearsal on Sunday (12th July) and then its curtains up on Monday until Sunday 19th July.
We'd like to wish everyone involved in MTS's production of Evita all the best for a successful run.
Some tickets are still available but you'll need to be quick as they are selling fast. For tickets and information click here.
Recently we were asked if we would photograph the inaugural Salisbury Hospice Cycle Challenge which takes place on Sunday 28th June. Not only did we agree, firstly to support Salisbury Hospice, but secondly we'd also like to have taken part in the Cycle Challenge too.
The Cycle Challenge takes in some of the prettiest views across south Wiltshire over the 35 or 60 mile routes and we were keen to sample what the participants in the Cycle Challenge would be experiencing. So, attempting to reach some sort of compromise we decided to complete a trial run of the 35 mile route and record our journey with a GoPro camera.
Below is the result of our trial run of the 35 mile route. Designed to show those who are interested in taking part and those who have already signed up what a fantastic day they'll have whether they complete the 35 or 60 mile routes and raising much needed funds for Salisbury Hospice. Individuals, families and teams are welcome.
With thanks to Mark at Spire Printing for being our cycle partner, being GoPro'd up and for completing the whole route; Jennie & Rob at Radiquip for their excellent video production; and Darren Candler of Metadas Media for the loan of the GoPro. This was a real team effort and we hope that not only do you like the video but that you choose to take part in the Cycle Challenge on 28th June.

Earlier this year we were commissioned to photograph an exciting new business set to launch in Salisbury at Easter. That exciting business was to be the Lime Tree Spa at Milford Hall Hotel, a luxurious boutique Spa in the centre of Salisbury.
The owners of Lime Tree Spa wanted high quality imagery to match the high quality of the Spa and to showcase the Spa to the many potential customers who would use it in the future.
So just before Easter we spent a full day with Spa Manager Sarah and her newly-formed team and set about creating imagery that would match the quailty look and feel of the Spa, which at the time was an unfinished project. Sets photgraphed included the thermal lounge with sauna, aroma steam, outdoor vitality spa pool and the fitness suite.
With the help of Alistair Johnson of Spa Creators we photographed each room set and provided the images digitally via dropbox in high and low resolution so that the Spa's web team could get the website and promotional literarture ready asap. The Spa opened on Good Friday and has recently had it's official open day, which was a huge success.
Some of our pictures are below with more available to view in the gallery.

I'd like to think that we have a good relationship with our local media outlets and the Salisbury Journal, Valley News and Stonehenge Trader duly published Dion's press release, thanks to all three publications. The press release was also used on social media including facebook and twitter.

While some of the results in the General Election were still to be counted, I and a few others took to Salisbury Plain this morning to drive around in some of Stonehenge ATVs new Quadzilla Z8 buggies.
These road-legal buggies are part of Stonehenge ATVs unique Salisbury Plain adventure which means you get to drive these fantastic machines around areas of the Plain you can't normally get access to including decent views of Stonehenge!
Tony and Robin were our guides. They gave us our debriefing and driver training, kitted us out with all our equipment and even provided breakfast and tea & coffee whilst out driving!
The whole day was great fun and I'm really looking forward to going again. The ATV day is a great idea for a Stag Do with a difference, team-building days and families or individuals wanting to try something new. There is no other company in the U.K. to offer this unique of experience and I thoroughly recommend you book a day driving one too.
Have a look at their website www.stonehengeatv.com for all the information and if you hurry they have 2 hour taster sessions for only £70!
After a few months of planning, writing and designing we're deligthed to announce that our website has a brand-new look and it is even more mobile friendly so you'll get a great viewing experience whatever device you view us on.

On Thursday 26th June, businesses from across south Wiltshire attended a glittering evening at Salisbury's City Hall to celebrate and recognise success and achievement in the business community.
Hosted by Spire FM's Ceri Hurford-Jones and Karen Bosley, guests were entertained with music from the wonderful Sharon Corr and 11 businesses were awarded their very own Spire in recognition of their success and achievements over the past twelve months.
The awards, now in it's 15th year, were sponsored by the Federation of Small Businesses in partnership with Salisbury Audi.

Approximately 36,000 people watched the sun rise over Stonehenge, in Wiltshire at 04.52 this morning to celebrate the start of the longest day.
This number is about 15,000 up on 2013 due mainly to the solstice falling on a Saturday morning and the good weather that had been forecast.
Visitors were not disappointed as we were treated to a beautiful sunrise over the magnificent stones, well worth getting up early for!
We've included a couple of pictures here and click to see the full image gallery.
Here at Simon Ward Photography we're always looking for ways to offer something extra for our wedding customers. We're well known for offering a fully bespoke service instead of the fixed packages or an insistence on being with you all day that others offer.
Our 10x8" official prints are one of our most loved features and because all of your guests will be taking their own pictures of your big day (and tagging you in them on facebook) our official 10x8" print which we produce on your wedding day gives you something tangible from your official photographer before you see your whole wedding gallery after your honeymoon.
For all of our weddings in 2014 we now also put together a fantastic photo preview video. This preview video is produced by us, set to music and available for couples and their guests to view online via their PC, tablet or smartphone.
The feedback we've had so far has been nothing short of amazing and we're delighted to be able to share a video we've recently put together for Katie & Dean whose wedding we photographed over last August Bank Holiday weekend in Northamptonshire.

Salisbury & York
It's been a few weeks since our last blog! We've been busily gearing up for a number of events and our corporate and commercial work has also kept us out of the studio for much of March and April.
However, the weekend just gone has been a rather romantic one. With two weddings booked in medieval cathedral cities, it promised to be a weekend full of celebration and contrast for both couples.
Our wedding on Saturday took in the lovely Salisbury Registry Office at Bourne Hill with it's splendid grounds followed by a reception at Salisbury's Cosy Club. Being a former solicitors office, the Cosy Club has been lovingly refurbished and is a rather lovely venue for a wedding celebration.
Cate & Paul had booked us approximately 8 weeks before the big day and within that time we'd completed our reccy and had some pre-wedding photographs in the grounds of Bourne Hill. Knowing that their wedding was to only have a few select guests we were able to work with their ideas for relaxed and informal photography.
The expected wet weather held off all day and Cate & Paul and their guests had a lovely relaxed day. Cate & Paul are now honeymooning abroad.
Sunday's wedding of Kerri and David was booked back in February 2013 at Salisbury's Guildhall Wedding Fair. Kerri and David met in York and had their first date at The Hospitium which, if you know it, is a fabulous Tudor building in the York Museum grounds.
We completed a reccy in York with Kerri & David back in February and having said at the time that the next two months would fly by, that's exactly how it turned out as their big day drew ever closer.
The expected wet weather also held off meaning that Kerri & David and their guests could make the most of the beautiful surroundings in which their wedding was held. With approximately 90 guests from home and abroad Kerri & David also treated their guests to an inpromptu ten minute show (which is the norm at weddings in Luxembourg). They partied late into the evening and Kerri & David are now taking a short break in York followed by a honeymoon later in the year.
Two lovely couples with contrasting wishes for their wedding photography both set in arguably two of England's most beautiful cities.
We wish both couples all the best for the future.

(the new Salisbury Playhouse production)!
Wedding Fair season is in full swing in Salisbury with the Guildhall Wedding Fair having taken place in February followed by the forthcoming Wiltshire Wedding Show at City Hall Salisbury on 16th March.
However, my photos of the Worst Wedding Ever is not in fact a wedding but the forthcoming new play at Salisbury Playhouse! Last week I was invited by Salisbury Playhouse to take publicity photographs of the rehearsals for it's new play written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall. Worst Wedding Ever premieres at Salisbury Playhouse from Thursday 27th March to Saturday 19th April.
It is a comedy drama set in West Dorset about a mother who, after her daughter's original wedding plans begin to crumble, enlists the whole family to help make the day one she'll never forget. With a marquee in the back garden, a hand-me-down dress, the pub band and two fully-functioning Portaloos, surely the day will pass without a hitch?
Carolyn Pickles will play Liz, the mother of the bride, whilst Rosie Wyatt and Rudi Dharmalingham will play the bride and groom, Rachel and Scott. The production is directed by Salisbury Playhouse's Artistic Director, Gareth Machin.

This year's wedding season has begun in earnest this month with our first ceremony of 2014 taking place on Valentine's Day. Since we began wedding photography back in August 2009 we have never photographed a wedding on 14th February! This is more than likely to be because the previous few Valentine's Days have been on less popular weekdays for weddings so it was lovely to be photographing Candyce and Bruce's big day almost two weeks ago.
Candyce and Bruce's wedding took place in Winchester and is the first of a number of weddings we will have the pleasure of photographing that are further afield this year. In the past few years we've photographed weddings in Brockenhurst & Beualieu in the New Forest, Bournemouth, Fareham, Lymington, Burcombe, Andover, Motcombe, Liphook, Northamptonshire and Kent in addition to the many wonderful venues in the Salisbury area.
So far this year our 'further afield' wedding bookings will take us to the Christchurch Harbour Hotel, Ardington House in Oxfordshire and York to name a few. As standard we always visit venues prior to the wedding date, even if we've photographed there before, to ensure we can prepare as much as possible before the big day.
Hence our trip to York just over a week ago where Kerri and Dave are getting married at The Hospitium (above left). A fantastic venue which we are very much looking forward to visiting again for the big day in April.
We met Kerri and David at the Guildhall, Salisbury Wedding Fair in February 2013 and almost 14 months after they booked us we will be preparing to photograph their wedding day in the city that they first met.
For more information on our wedding photography please click here and whichever venue you have chosen and for whatever the reason why, we hope you have a fantastic wedding!

(or dispelling some of the myths of a studio photoshoot).
Back in November last year I was commissioned to take a series of profile photographs of the on-air presenters and news team at Spire FM in Salisbury. Once dates and times were agreed the Spire team came to our studio for their photos.
On a cold Wednesday in December, and with the to-be-expected thoughts of some that the session might be like having a 'school photo' taken, one by one each of the team had their individual shots done followed by a selection of group photos too. I believe that all of the team were pleasantly surprised that the session was relaxed, informal and not at all like having school photos taken.
What we ended up with is shown below, the pictures are now used across the Spire FM website and also on vehicle advertising as part of Spire's commercial advertising proposition.
For more details of how we can help your business update and refresh through photography see our commercial section here.

The saying is that "it never rains but it pours!" And pour down it has done in Salisbury and south Wiltshire over the Christmas and New Year period!
I was contacted by Grasmere House Hotel in Salisbury on Wednesday 8th January. They asked if I'd like to come and take a few pictures of the flooding that they'd had. Coupled with a shot of a recent wedding I'd photographed there we put the two pictures together to show the true extent of mother nature's doing. Effectively the Rivers Nadder and Avon had merged into one due to the extensive rainfall Salisbury had experienced.
After publishing the picture onto social media I was contacted by Simon Parkin, ITV Meridian's weather presenter, asking if I had any more 'before and after shots'. After having a look through my archive of pictures (which was larger than I thought), I found three pictures that were similar to ones that I'd taken on Wednesday.
Thankfully Grasmere House is fine, it's just most of their back lawn is currently underwater!
These pictures were then used as a montage on ITV News Meridian on Thursday 9th January 2014. Below are the before and after images and a brief video of the piece on Meridian.
My thanks go to Simon Parkin, Stacey Poole and all at ITV Meridian for using the pictures. Thanks also to the Grasmere House Hotel for inviting me along to capture the extent of the flooding.
The End of an Era
Salisbury said farewell to it's bus station today after over 70 years of service to the city. To commemorate this historic event, Wilts & Dorset Bus Company held a Vintage Day with up to 20 vintage buses running free rides around the city. Vehicles including Bristols, Leylands, Daimlers, Routemasters and even the New Bus for London were on show on a rather wet and windy day, which however didn't stop a number of people taking to the open-top tour bus!
Locals and enthusiasts young and old, braved the weather to catch a glimpse of some of the vehicles which were commonplace in Salisbury over the course of 70 years.
A long time before becoming a professional photographer I had a brief stint as a London bus driver so seeing some of these fantastic vehicles especially the Routemaster and New Bus for London in Salisbury today was quite an experience.

Behind the scenes we've been working since May on a new chapter for the business - our new photography studio. The old saying of location, location, location is as true to businesses as it is when buying a house, especially in the Salisbury area! After months of looking at different places of all shapes and sizes we kept coming back to the same thought, 'a central Salisbury location with plenty of free parking'.
That idea has now been realised and we'll shortly be opening our new studio on the Churchfields Industrial Estate. Not only will we have free parking but we are only a short walk from Salisbury Railway Station and the city centre.
Building on the huge success of our wedding, portrait and event photography we will soon be welcoming customers, existing and new, to a fresh new photography experience in the heart of Salisbury. We've built an enviable reputation for excellent quality photography and products coupled with excellent customer service. Don't just take our word for it though, check out our testimonials page for an insight from real customers.
Our latest video showcasing the launch offer is below. There's four videos in the series and they are here.
Celebrating some of West Sussex's most courageous people the awards recognised people from all walks of life who've helped others in times of trouble. Hosted by Milly Luxford and Vicky Edwards and with a special guest appearance from Brian McFadden the evening was full of laughter and a few tears as West Sussex came to recognise some truly inspirational individuals.
We were there as official photographers, below is a few pictures from the evening, please click here to see the full gallery.
For more information on the awards please visit Spirit FM's website.
Martin Starke and Faye Marsh got BAPTWD off and running at 6.00am broadcasting the Spire FM breakfast show live from the bookshop at Salisbury District Hospital. Special guests were interviewed during the course of the show, highlighting the many reasons why the CT Scanner Campaign is so important to the patients and staff at the hospital.
Staff, patients and visitors were also kind enough to donate their pounds during the show and in some cases notes rater than coins were donated! Toddy and Jo from the Stars Appeal were on hand to update listeners with the plans for the rest of the day including their trip around south Wiltshire taking pictures and thanking the businesses who had pledged their support to BAPTWD.
After the breakfast show had finished, Martin, Faye, Toddy, Jo, Pat and I then set about visiting as many local businesses as possible to thank them for their support and to have their pictures taken. Pat and I visited businesses including Waitrose, Milford Hall Hotel, Capita, Friends Life, Bath Travel, Boots, JAS Hair, Red Lion Hotel and Salisbury REDS.
As at 6.00pm this evening approximately £11,500 had been raised by small, medium and large businesses across Salisbury and beyond helping the Stars Appeal to get ever closer to the £650,000 needed for the CT Scanner!!
If you haven't donated and would like to please visit the Virgin MoneyGiving page
The full gallery of pictures taken by Simon Ward Photography is here.
Thanks to everyone involved in a great day of fundraising!
Every pound you and your colleagues raise will help the Stars Appeal reach it's target of £650,000 to buy a second CT Scanner for Salisbury District Hospital.
The new scanner will help thousands of local people every year by reducing waiting times for scans and ensuring that scans are available, day and night, every day of the year. You can see more about how your fundraising will help in the Stars Appeal’s new video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohwn0w1mMR8
Family portraits...
From experience these two words can either be music to your ears or fill you with dread!
Most people fall into one of two categories, either you love having your picture taken or you don't. Usually Mummy and the children love having their pictures taken but Daddy doesn't (this isn't always the case but more often than not in our experience).
And in this age of camera phones and tablet computers it is so easy to quickly capture pictures of your children at home or out and about, but much of the time these pictures stay hidden on our devices or put onto facebook.
Our children grow up so quickly and while it's great that we can capture precious moments quickly with our camera phones one of the family tends to be missing from the shot because they are taking the picture and there isn't always someone else around to take the picture for you so that the whole family can be in the shot.
Having a five year old son we know how quickly children grow up and looking back we simply don't have many pictures of us altogether. This is why a family portrait shoot from Simon Ward Photography is the perfect way to capture those precious moments that go in the blink of an eye.
A studio or location based family portrait shoot with us is fun, relaxed and dare we say it, enjoyable too! We always put the kettle on and we'll have a chat about what you want from the shoot to ensure we capture the images you'll love. Our shoots:
Afterwards you can choose from our wide range of photo gifts including framed prints, canvases, aluminis and photo cubes and calendars. The vast majority of our products are made in the UK. Alternatively you could have a selection of images edited and presented to you in high resolution on a CD or USB for your own use.
Christmas will soon be here and with shoots starting from only £50.00, having a family portrait shoot with us can be a great way of sorting Christmas presents for your family and friends too. We also offer gift vouchers and thee can be a great way of giving the whole family a treat they'll be able to look back on for years to come.
Our current Back to School portrait promotion runs until 30th September!
Take a look at our portrait gallery for some examples of our fun and relaxed style and our testimonials page for comments from existing customers.

This is the Guildhall's second wedding fair and our second too! Previous wedding fairs have been held at the Guildhall but they haven't been organised by the Guildhall team. Open from 11.00am to 3.30pm with over 30 exhibitors and fashion shows, if you've popped the question then make sure you pop along tomorrow, we're on Stand 25 in the Crown Court.

Not forgetting the lovely venues closer to home including Milford Hall Hotel, Burcombe Manor, Rose & Crown, Grasmere House, The Red Lion and The White Hart.

We believe that the presentation is equally as important as the photography. At the Guildhall, Salisbury Wedding Fair you'll be able to touch and feel examples of our range of beautiful products for both before and after your wedding.
We'll also be launching a brand new range of wedding stationery to the Salisbury area with our friends at Five Dollar Shake! If you've heard of Five Dollar Shake you'll already know about their award-winning luxury greetings cards and stationery. ]]>We've just launched our fantastic Back to School portrait promotion, simply book your session by 30th September 2013 and have the shoot by 31st December 2013 to receive the offer below. The session includes one hour of photography, an online gallery and a beautiful wooden Photo Cube (worth £25.00) for only £50.00!!
An experienced professional wedding photographer doesn't email their customers on the morning of their wedding or other event and cancel blaming the weather or any other reason why they can't be with you.
An experienced professional wedding photographer doesn't take a deposit without meeting their customer first and they certainly don't send emails requesting payment of the final balance still without having met their customer for the first time. Also they never say that they are ill as an excuse for not contacting their potential customer when they were actually enjoying a drink down the pub with their mates!
An experienced professional wedding photographer is someone who listens to what their customer wants, what they don't want and then tailors a service that meets and exceeds their customer's expectations. They don't try to force a particular product or service on their customer or insist that they be with you all day long if you really don't want them to be there for that amount of time!
Unfortunately all of the above examples are true and from real people who have been let down by so-called experienced professional wedding photographers.
Pictures © David Ferris
An experienced professional wedding photographer is more than just a photographer. They are someone who can help their customers with many other things from pinning on button holes, reassuring nervous or shy guests, helping children get involved and preparing for your wedding long before the big day. Above all they are honest, reliable and able to multi-task.
An experienced professional wedding photographer doesn't take centre stage but instead captures the formal pictures that you want, the little details like rose petals on the church floor and the many other moments that most brides and grooms don't see on their wedding day. They are there to guide and encourage your wedding guests so that you have the wedding photos you want.
An experienced professional wedding photographer is fully insured, CRB checked and accredited with respectable trade associations to provide reassurance and credibility for their customers.
Simon Ward Photography is an experienced professional wedding photographer but please don't just my word for it, please see some of our customer testimonials here. We are judged by our customers who are the lifeblood of our business.
Working with you to ensure you have the wedding photography service you want, you liaise with the photographer right from the start, after all it is they who will be photographing your big day isn't it (you'd be surprised)! We don't offer Platinum, Gold, Silver or even Bronze packages but tailor a bespoke service designed entirely around what you want for your wedding day. We don't do hard-sell, we don't cold-call and we don't artificially raise our prices to offer you a big discount if you buy on the day.
Customers tell us that they choose us because we are exactly what they want in terms of price, product, service and because we didn't put pressure on them. We have excellent relationships with many of the leading wedding suppliers and venues in Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and beyond. We're also in the July edition of Salisbury Life too (see below)!
We are having a record 2013 and bookings for 2014 are also well ahead of expectations. 2014 will also be our fifth birthday and we're very much looking forward to it.
To find out more about us why not pick up the phone, send us an email or like us on facebook and follow us on twitter.

Unlike previous years we've been very lucky with the weather up to this point and where there has been rain (and wind) we've 'made the most of it' so to speak!
The time frame for booking a wedding can be as far in advance as 18 months for a wedding we shot on 15th June. However the wedding the previous weekend was only booked three weeks in advance due to a number of concerns with their incumbent photographer. The main one being that they'd paid a deposit but with three weeks to go before their big day the photographer hadn't requested to meet with them and was requesting the final balance be paid without a suggestion of a meeting to discuss times, numbers and other important parts of the day.
As part of our pre-wedding preparations we strongly recommend meeting with brides and grooms a minimum of two, and in most cases, three times before the wedding day. This is to ensure as much preparation is done beforehand and helps to build a rapport between us and our customers. Even if we've photographed at the venue before, it does no harm for all of us to meet at the venues prior to the actual wedding day.
2013 Wedding Fashions
One of the big 'fashions' for 2013 is for couples to have their speeches before the wedding breakfast. The main reason appears to be so that the bride (and the groom, best man and father-of-the-bride) can relax and enjoy their meals without worrying about their impending speech. I was so nervous before my speech at my wedding and because we had our meal first it meant that I didn't enjoy my meal as much as I could have done. In hindsight we'd have had our speeches before the meal too! Going one step further, couples who do have their speeches before the meals are also having them outside. This is especially useful for people who are particularly worried about public speaking.
There is no right or wrong answer to this dilemma and it is one thing among many others that we advise our couples on during our pre-wedding meetings.
Simon
]]>In the last few months we've been privileged to have photographed a number of weddings in Wiltshire, Hampshire, the New Forest and Dorset including some new venues including Burcombe Manor and The Master Builder's House Hotel at Buckler's Hard near Beaulieu. Later this year we go further afield with trips to Northamaptonshire and back into the New Forest while not forgetting the stunning Salisbury and south Wiltshire venues we'll be returning to for our 5th year.
After three days of workshops, seminars and keynote speakers, Salisbury's Big Business Event for 2013 is over. The feedback and comments that have already been received has been fantastic.
With talks from Karren Brady, Liz Jackson, Mike Southon, Amanda Kennedy, John Colley, Tony Field, David Newton, Claire Riches and Jade Nash from The Apprentice, Salisbury's Guildhall was the place to be to hear inspirational, motivational and engaging speakers give their expert advice on a wide variety of topics for businesses owners and entrepreneurs.
The BBC's Newsnight also paid a visit and interviewed Simon Rhodes, Ade Sainsbury and Jade Nash for Wednesday night's programme.
Social media has been a huge help to the organisation of this year's event and you can find out more by following the SBBE twitter feed here and the facebook page here. You'll also find pictures from the event and of the white box photos taken in the run-up to the event.
On behalf of everyone involved in organising SBBE I would like to thank all those who took part in the white box photos. By taking part you helped to create a talking point in Salisbury over the past ten weeks and the promotion, tweets, retweets, posts, likes and blog posts has been overwhelming.
Also thanks to all the celebrities who took part in the box photos including John Challis, Duncan Bannatyne, Al Murray, Esther Rantzen, Andrea Byrne, Simon Parkin, Fred Dinenage, Stacey Poole, Suggs and Milton Jones.
The press release for the end of the event has been released and can be viewed here

... what with Mother's Day and mothers-to-be photo shoots, corporate shoots, new product launches and not to mention a few more of the Salisbury Big Business Event box photos.
I'll mention more about the photoshoots on another blog post but I want to mention the opportunity that I had to take some aerial photos of Salisbury as the guest of Darren Candler from Metadas Media.
Darren wanted to have his photo taken with the SBBE box but wanted to do something different and literally 'think outside the box'. So on a bright and sunny but cold and windy, early Spring Tuesday morning we eventually took the skies above Salisbury. I say eventually because it turns out that small planes suffer from the cold as much as cars and humans do and it refused to start. Luckily with the second one did start and although it was very windy it was still safe enough to take off.
We had about 20 minutes of flying time which was enough time to get a photo of Darren with the SBBE box and for plenty of aerial photos of Salisbury including Salisbury Cathedral, the Cathedral Close, Old Sarum, Harnham, Salisbury City Centre and much more. The inhabitants of Salisbury, myself included, can sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful and picturesque part of the world. Being 1500 feet up reminds you of this and shows the fantastic views over the small cathedral city in the countryside.
For more aerial photos please click here.
For more of the SBBE box photos please click here.
Due to the amount of interest in the photos I have made them available for purchase and for every sale a donation will be made to the Stars Appeal at Salisbury District Hospital.
Many thanks to Darren Candler for arranging the flight and to Jemma and David at GoFly at Old Sarum Airfield.
]]>...has almost come to an end, except there's a trip to the NEC in Birmingham on Sunday to look forward to.
The Salisbury Big Business Event box photos campaign has proved to be very popular with approximately 50 businesses, charities and other organisations taking part so far. There's more businesses to see but for me it's a busy time with Mother's Day coming up which means family portraits booked in.
We'll be back on the SBBE box bandwagon in a couple of weeks but in the meantime here's a few of the pictures from this week's batch including the teams at Salisbury's City Hall, Five Rivers Recruitment, Allum & Sidaway. Liz Jackson also got involved ahead of her talk at SBBE on the 23rd April and I had an impromptu visit to deepest Shropshire to meet John Challis, aka Boycie from Only Fools and Horses who now runs his own publishing company. Al Murray's Pub Landlord visited the City Hall on Thursday evening and we managed to get a photo of him with the box too.
If you want to get involved please contact us via our twitter page.
Greatful thanks to everyone who has taken part so far and especially to Sam, Vicky and Tim at City Hall Salisbury, Liz Jackson, John Challis and Al Murray.
The challenge is on! We've been inundated from businesses across south Wiltshire who want to help promote SBBE 2013 and their business, by having their photos taken with the SBBE white box.
Approximately 40 businesses are in the diary and will be visited over the next couple of weeks to be part of the promotional campaign for the second SBBE which takes place from 23rd - 25th April at The Guildhall, Salisbury. Some of the most recent businesses to take part are below and here
With keynote speakers Karren Brady, Liz Jackson MBE and Mike Southon joining us the event promises to give businesses of all shapes and sizes the opportunity to get advice, information and to network over the three days.
For more information about SBBE and to take part in the white box photo challenge please click here to visit the SBBE website or visit our twitter page here
While 2012 might seem like a distant memory now it will remain a year that few of us will forget for a variety of reasons. Personally 2012 brought me so many opportunities, many of which I was privileged to be able to capture.
From the BBC's One Show, the Olympic Torch and Her Majesty the Queen visiting Salisbury to the Salisbury Big Business Event, Salisbury Fashion Week and the City's first-ever Christmas Market.
2013 is already shaping up to be another busy year and I've promised myself that I'll put more of my events from the last four years online too. However in the meantime feel free to remind yourself of some of the key events that shaped Salisbury's 2012.

Salisbury’s Big Business Event is back for a second year from 23-25 April at The Guildhall, Salisbury.
As the Official Photographer for SBBE, my photos from last year's inaugural event are appearing in the media including the latest edition of Salisbury Life magazine which you can view here
"The event aims to support businesses of all sizes to promote and encourage growth and sustainability. This year organisers have arranged a number of talks by various local experts and a number of keynote speakers including Mike Southon – The Beermat Entrepreneur, Liz Jackson MBE who featured in the Secret Millionaire and BBC Apprentice star Karren Brady.
The organising committee – Salisbury City Council, Trethowans Solicitors, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Salisbury City Centre Management, Blue Frontier IT, Federation of Small Businesses, Wiltshire Council and Simon Ward Photography hope this year more businesses will make use of the FREE advice on offer over the three days from a whole host of industry experts.
Business Manager for Salisbury City Council, Claire Burden said, “Last year over 600 businesses came through the doors and used the free advice available from the experts who ranged from banks to marketing and pr, all without the sales pitches and hassle businesses have come to expect. The whole emphasis on our event is to encourage business growth in the area by providing FREE support when its needed and also to encourage our local businesses to network and meet other companies from across the area and further afield. Last year was a great success and we want to ensure that the event continues to grow and support the business community.”
Businesses of all sizes are encouraged to register for updates via the event website at www.salisburybigbusiness.co.uk

As part of a huge recruit drive the Department for Education launched a campaign entitled "Those who can, teach". When Amesbury Primary School wanted to update their website they didn't want the usual 'head and shoulders' type photos of their staff, instead they wanted visitors to be able to see what the teachers there do best, teach.
Working with the staff and headteacher I have helped them to achieve welcoming and friendly photography which shows prospective parents the great atmosphere and environment that Amesbury Primary School offers all its pupils. Even Alfie the school dog got in on the act!
Following on from its recent 'Good' Ofsted inspection, Amesbury Primary School is going places and it has been a pleasure to help them show off all that is great about the school. The new website will be available soon but here's a sneak peek of some of the pictures.
The event was very busy all day and it was great to speak with so many people!
We had a promotion running whereby couples who signed up to receive our Snapshot! newsletter were entered into a prize draw to win a fantastic Alumini print! Congratulations go to Emma Burgess and Daniel Egerton who were the lucky winners chosen at random by Ali Greenwood of the Milford Hall Hotel at the close of the event this afternoon!
It was also great to see a few people whose weddings we photographed in the last twelve months including Jenny Hawker, and Julia & Ryan Warren and also some couples whose weddings we arephotographing this year including Sarah & Nick, Janet & Bob and Vanessa & Daryn!
Snapshot! is full of news, views and information on photography, Salisbury and the community through my freelance role with the Salisbury Journal and is available for free by signing up via our website.
Don't forget that we are on facebook and twitter @SimonWardPhoto too!
Have a great week!
]]>Anyway, enough of the excuses! The Simon Ward Photography blog is finally here! And what else would I blog about on a Saturday evening in February the day before a wedding fair? You guessed it, a wedding fair!
The Guildhall, Salisbury Wedding Fair takes place tomorrow (3rd February 2013) from 11am - 4pm. With over 30 exhibitors and a fashion show hosted by Spire FM's Martin Starke there's plenty of ideas for your big day.
We're on stand 2 in the main Banqueting Hall so if you've popped the question, answered the question and now have more questions why not pop along and say hello.
