THE SALISBURY RUSSIAN SPY INCIDENT: THROUGH OUR LENS
The world's attention has been focussed on my adopted home of Salisbury for much of March 2018. Our small cathedral city has become the focal point for an unprecedented international incident.
Much has been said and written by people who don't live in our fine city. Theories, counter-theories, rumour and speculation. As a photographer by trade, events such as this are too important not to cover, if only for historical importance.
I think it's fair to say that the city is extremely grateful for the help and support of all the local emergency services and armed forces personnel as well as those who have come from far and wide to support their colleagues in Wiltshire.
My first interaction with this event was on Tuesday 6th March. Below you'll find my account of the incident to date using a mixture of DSLR, mobile phone and video footage (taken on the exceptional Sony XZ1 device, other mobile phones are available).
The residents of the city are carrying on as normal, much has been made by some of the world's media's scare-mongering that we're "living in fear" which is definitely not the case. It is true however that businesses have suffered and visitor numbers are down but plans have been put in place to rectify this and it's the perfect opportunity to tell the whole world that Salisbury is well and truly open for business and visitors should continue to travel to see for themselves what a great place Salisbury is.
