Friday 14th March 2014Organisers of the charity quiz evening held at Salisbury Arts Centre on March 14 say it looks as if the event raised over £6,500 – money that will be divided between the Salisbury Hospital Stars Appeal and other local charities. The 174 quiz-fans who’d entered were in 29 teams, and for two hours question-master Martin Starke of Spire FM teased them with such posers as:
What do you call the act of interpreting a word’s intended sense or meaning?; What do you call the casing of a shark’s fertilised eggs?; At the end of the quiz, just a single point separated the top three teams with local hair dressing salon ‘Heaven Hair’ taking the trophy, closely followed by the ‘Ides of March’ and Fawcetts Accountants.
As well as the quiz, there was a raffle which raised over £750 and an auction, expertly conducted by Michael Vesey, which raised £3,040. Star auction items included a week’s stay for up to 6 people in a gite in Brittany
www.kervec.com (£910); a week in a villa in Turkey (£880) thanks to
www.turkishholidayvillas.com and a Wessex Raceway team-building event which fetched £390.
The event was organised by the Salisbury Rotary & Chamber Community Group. Future events include a Track Day in April at Goodwood for ‘petrol heads’, a six-a-side Football Fiesta in July for children aged 8-15 and a Contemporary Craft & Heritage Fayre in The Cathedral Close in September.
